Ribs and smiles make Lura famous!

Lura has become quite the celebrity in this hospital.
Staff from all over the hospital have come in to see the woman who has more broken ribs than they have ever treated before. But more than that, she is known for her smile in spite of the pain and the frustration she is experiencing. I know her smile ever so well, and she has always had that smile for me, but other folks aren't used to someone who smiles in spite of misery.
Today I made her smile with an Orange Julius I brought her.

Today Lura was really smiling because John came into the hospital for a complete checkup, head-to-toe, and other than his bumps and bruises, and getting some medication for pain and sleep, he is doing fine! Lura worried about him, because he had been released from the hospital in Nephi without a complete work-up, so now she feels much better.
Lura is getting fancy little gifts that she loves, and her smiles are like sunbeams because of her sweet little granddaughters Emma and Gracie, here with their Auntie Erin, Lura's daughter that lives in Lehi, just up the road from the hospital.

The mail lady has become fast friends with Lura, thanks to all the wonderful cards and letters that have come from her friends. She has beautiful handmade stamped cards, stitched cards, handdrawn cards, and interesting drawings from her grandchildren.
She so appreciates all the loving thoughtfulness and prayers that come from all of you.
There is another specific thing that you can pray for. The epidural that is in her spinal column that keeps her rib cage numb and allows Lura to breathe, is scheduled to come out tomorrow. Her doctor that is the anesthesiologist has said that if there are no signs of infection, then they can keep it in longer, maybe even up to a week. Since that has been allowing Lura to take deep breaths and do her breathing treatments, we can pray that she has no sign of infection and that they keep the epidural in longer.

Love, Sil

Good evening from snowy MA Lura. yes snow and it is not an April fools joke. I wish it was!! Just when the lawn and garden were all dried out from the deep snow we had this winter. But knowing what you have endured and still endure, I can handle a little snow with grace!

I think about you all the time and I am so thankful for these updates. I will pray that the epidural can stay in longer! We need you taking those deep breaths!!

Lots and lots of warm but gentle hugs!!

Lura, I'm so shocked and sorry to hear about your accident. I hadn't been blogging for a while and only just heard about it from Marie today, so I came right over to read/catch up on your posts.

I'm so glad you are making progress and your wonderful family have been able to be there with you to encourage and support you, and I am certainly going to add you and John to my prayers.

Sounds like a real miracle testimony. God is good!!!

Oh Sil thanks for all the pictures and updates. Lura: You look so beautiful! I'm in no way surprised that you are famous... for your smile, though it's sad you are famous for having the most broken ribs. I mean what a hard way to gain fame! Oh it's so wonderful that you are doing so much better, and it's great to see John looking so good, and to hear that he's gotten a good medical report.

In a funny way Lura I feel like I've spent more time with you that past week than I've ever really had before. You are my constant companion throughout the day and you are my last thought at night and my first in the morning. I'm really enjoying it, and yet, in a way I'm sure you can appreciate, I can't wait for it to be over. I want you home and walking through my bedroom door out of the blue and making my day.

Dad isn't doing better, so it may be a very long time before Johnny and Darien will travel to California, but I can't wait until the day you are better and Dad is better and we can worry about nothing more important that what we will serve for high tea with a 5 year old!

I love you dear friend...
Sending tons of prayers!!!
Love and hugs to you and John and Sil, Jan

Hi Lura, I'm just on my way to bed but wanted to check in with you before I go and what a wonderful post and pictures! Maybe I missed the details but...the most ribs they've treated? Just how many is that? Ouch! I understand broken ribs are really painful so I know now why breathing is so difficult! It's been cold here in Arkansas - we had a couple of weeks of warm weather then bam...cold. This weekend it's supposed to get back to 75 though so I'm excited about that as our son and his family are coming in for the weekend. I spent most of my day cleaning and doing laundry and I thought about you - thinking I bet Lura wishes she could be back home doing laundry! You will be soon...as much as we hate laundry it will be good to get back to yourself so you can do it again. :) Good night and blessings friend, Marlene

Hi Lura,
Your looking wonderful! After talking to you this morning, I went down to the Brown's, but no one answered at the gate so I left a note in the mail box explaining about the accident and left my phone number. It was nice to see a picture of John and to hear he is doing well. Lots of love and prayers, Sandie

Lura, I see improvements every day. It is so good to see your smile. I love your smile. It reminds me of the week we spent together and all the smiles we had. I often think of you laying in that hotel bed covered with hand warmers, which might sound odd to anyone just reading this! You have always made me smile and inspired me. I tried to send you a gift and balloon from the hospital gift shop so that you could have something tangible to show that I am thinking of you, but it was a no go. The form to fill out is just not equipped for other countries! I shall have to send you something through the post, which will take a while to get there, but hopefully not too long. I love you my dear friend and you are in my constant prayers and thoughts. I feel just like Jan, you have been my constant companion along with the Saviour over this past week. Isn't it nice to know you are walking together hand in hand! I will call later today. xxoo

PS - Anyone who knows you well knows you would never do a half a$$ job of anything! Hence the most broken ribs ever treated in that hospital! Am so happy to read that John has had another going over and is alright! xxoo

Continued prayers. I'm so glad you've had family visiting and that John got a full work up and the all clear.

Keep coughing and getting the gunk out of your lungs.

Lura,
So sorry about the accident. We were in Ralph's room in UCI when they told us. We have praying that your body will heal with the least amount of discomfort. You have always been such a blessing to our family as well as the ward family. Thank you!
I hear you need to cough. Isn't it amazing that the body heals itself by coughing. What a blessing, and again for you very painful. We pray the epidural will stay in for another week and help ease the pain and discomfort. Lura, so grateful you and John are alive and smiling, Love you, Barbara
