Ship Shape smiles, Cruising with my John part 3

1a grammy smiles

It has been a good week for me. I am starting to feel better and stronger at last. I was actually able to get some work done in our patios last week. It feels so good to be out of bed, outside in the fresh air and able to do some work.  I’m thankful.

Last week I interrupted my cruise blogging to put in a Father’s Day post. Today I would like to share the ship pics and smiles from our cruise with you.

For us being on the ship is as much a fun part of the vacation as going to the ports of call.

IMG_2942IMG_2959

As soon as we get on board and find our cabin….

IMG_2958

… We start exploring the ship.

IMG_3056IMG_2955

I’m always impressed by the atrium and elevators. They are always pretty, no matter what ship we are on.

IMG_2949IMG_2950

Next we make our way to the Lido deck to check out the buffet and pool.

IMG_3060IMG_3061

John and I rarely play in the pools and have never gone on the water slides but our family does when they cruise with us. It is fun for us to watch other’s enjoying these activities.

IMG_2952IMG_3063

The hot tubs are more our speed. They are especially relaxing  after a long day of walking on a port shore excursion.

IMG_3068IMG_3070

For us it is fun just walking around the ship, going from deck to deck, seeing the sights.

IMG_3047IMG_3048

We usually eat breakfast and lunch from the buffet….

IMG_3053IMG_3054

…where the food is good and beautifully presented….

IMG_3046IMG_3073

…But we nearly always eat dinner in the dining room where they have all kinds of exotic foods as well as the regular fare.  Here you see us having frog legs and escargot.

IMG_3006IMG_3075

The food is delicious every night but formal nights in the dining room is especially nice. That is when they serve the fanciest food like lobster tails and filet of beef. The waiters put on a cute show for us too.

IMG_3009IMG_3010

After dinner there is still lots going on to enjoy before the night is over. We like to attend the live performance show each evening in the big theater, listen to some of the musical groups around the ship and even dance to a slow song or two. (We don’t dance very often, so it always makes me smile when we do on the ship.)

IMG_3013IMG_2965

Each night when we return to our room, cute little towel animals greet us and make us smile. One of our favorite things about cruising is that we just have to unpack once and get to return to the same room each night. That makes the trip much easier and more relaxing than having to change our hotel room each day as we travel.

IMG_3071IMG_3050

We love sea days when we are on the ship all day and don’t have a port of call. There are many things to enjoy on the sea days like this ice carving demo. There are also all sorts of classes and activities to do if you are so inclined.

IMG_3057IMG_3064

We like to play miniature golf , get our walking exercise on decks & enjoy the ocean views.

IMG_3072

We also enjoy having a pizza snack or an ice cream cone.  24 hour pizza and ice cream are available on Carnival Cruises. That makes John smile.(All the cruise lines have pizza and ice cream but Carnival is the only line I know of that serves them 24 hours a day.)

IMG_2943

It is also fun just to relax and read or watch a movie in our cabin.

Cruising is the perfect vacation for us. We can be as active or as lazy as we want.  I had just had surgery 11 days before we took this last little cruise and I did fine…. it was a great get away and a change of pace.

Dollar for dollar, you can’t get as much for your vacation budget anywhere else. Cruising is very economical considering your hotel, food, entertainment, classes, activities and transportation to wonderful ports of call are all included in one price.  That makes us smile too.

We love cruising through life together….. That is one reason I became a travel agent after we retired from teaching.  We also love cruising with friends. Come join us next time….. or let me plan a cruise for you. Leave me a comment on this blog or email me at

jandltravel@charter.net  if you would like me to find a good deal on a cruise for you.

Until then…. I hope you are cruising along OK and everything is ship shape for you.

Hugs, Grammy Lura

Cruising with my hubby smiles…. part 2…. Ensenada, Mexico

1a grammy smiles
Last week I shared the first part of our cruise with you and told you about our stop at Catalina Island, CA. We love cruising for an economical get away. It is even more fun when cruise with friends. If you want to join us next time or plan your own cruise leave a comment or email me at
Jandltravel@charter.net
Here are the smiles I got from the next part of our cruise.
IMG_2971IMG_3004
After spending a lovely May day on the Island we taxied back to our ship and set off for Ensenada, Mexico.
IMG_3044IMG_1956
We arrived in Mexico early Wednesday morning.
IMG_1910
Even though we’ve done it before, we took the city tour and the trip to see the blow hole call La  Bufadora.
IMG_1958IMG_3023
Our first stop was at the Central Social and Cultural Center called Riviera de Ensenada.
IMG_3024IMG_3025
It is a beautiful structure built by the Hearst Family as a resort and casino years ago.
IMG_1942IMG_3017
From the tile floors to the wood patterned ceilings, the art work is beautiful.
IMG_1949IMG_1951
Every where we looked we were amazed by the lovely wood carvings and art.
IMG_3019IMG_3021
We had an excellent guide who did a great job telling us about the history and interesting facts.
IMG_3027IMG_1932
We drove for about 45 minutes on our bus through Ensenada and along the coastline.   Can you see the circles in the water? They don’t show up very well but they are tuna farms. Fishing is a big industry for Ensenada.
IMG_3030IMG_1931
Then we arrived at the blow hole… La Bufadora. There are only 3 of these blowholes in the world. The other two are in Australia and Hawaii.
IMG_1923IMG_1927
She put on quite a spectacular show for us because it was high tide…
IMG_3033IMG_3037
… but she didn’t want to show off for us when we were in the picture. (We took about 20 pictures but could never time it just right when we were in the picture.)
IMG_1913IMG_1916
We enjoyed the pretty scenery for a while….
IMG_3041IMG_3040
… and then we walked back to our bus through the large flea market you can see at the top of these stairs. I shopped for a while. In years past, I’ve bought some nice jewelry there. They specialize in silver and gem stone pieces. You can get some good deals but you can also get fake stones. It is best to only shop at the stores recommended by the cruise lines. This year, fine jewelry wasn’t on my list… (too bad)

but I did get these two cute bags that I am enjoying using.
IMG_3045
After our 4 1/2 hours of touring Ensenada we were exhausted and returned to our Ship. There is another flea market right by the ship….with lots of shops…. but I was too tired to do any more shopping. ( John was glad. See how he hurried to get back on the ship before I could change my mind.)
IMG_3000
We enjoyed our 2nd port day in Ensenada…. We like going there. If you are looking for a inexpensive, short, get-away cruise… this is a good one to take. Last Oct. I took it on a Princess ship with my friend Jan. This time John and I went on a Carnival ship. Both were nice experiences and a great value for our vacation dollars.
That evening we sailed away from Mexico and headed back to Long Beach. … but we still had another sea day day to enjoy our vacation on the ship.
Next post I will share our ship smiles with you.
Until then I hope that your week is “ship shape”.
