Happy Birthday Claire and Happy Halloween

A_staffy's_Sunday_Six

To be honest with you I’ve had a hard time finding my smiles this past week. I have really been down and discouraged since the election.  I’ve never in my life been as disappointed and upset about an election as I am this one. Romney is such a good  man and he would have been the best president America has had in years….. I am absolutely dumbfounded that Americans could elect Obama over a good man like Romney.  I’ve cried all week…… in fact I feel so low  and so  worried about what will happen to American under 4 more years of Obama’s leadership, I probably wouldn’t even do a post today if I didn’t have Halloween smiles to share with you.

Happy Halloween

Halloween is a really fun and happy time for our family…. mainly because Halloween is our Claire Bear’s birthday.

She was due in November…. but 11 years ago just as Mindy was about to take 2 year old E.J. out trick or treating, Claire decided she wanted to get in on the fun too. Mindy and Ernie had to abruptly leave our church party and make a dash to the hospital.  John and I took little E.J. to get his candy…. and Ernie took Mindy to have her baby girl.  Claire surely played a trick on all of us.

IMG_6105

I think that she is a darling little witch….. don’t you? What  joy this dear girl brings to our family.  It is appropriate that she was born during Trick or Treating because she is sweeter than any candy!

IMG_6109

I miss seeing all my Utah grandkids on Halloween but we surely have fun with these three.  This year we had Thor, a zombie and a candy witch.

IMG_6102

Austin had a hard time decided on which super hero he would be this year but Thor finally won out.  Our family can rest easy knowing that we have this brave, strong guy in our midst.

However, his big brother is another story.

IMG_6107IMG_6106

What happened to our handsome E.J.???? How did this awful looking zombie take over our cute kid?  I guess it has something to do with him being 13 now and in Middle school…. I suppose scary is cooler than cute.  I’m glad it was for just one night.

After taking our pictures we all went down to the neighbor’s for dinner.

IMG_6113

The neighbors always have a Halloween potluck dinner. We are  made to feel welcome. That makes us smile.

IMG_6111

What fun we have with our little spooks.

IMG_6114IMG_6115

After dinner there are presents to open and trick or treating to do. I think it was very thoughtful of Claire to surprise us all and make her entrance into this world on Halloween.  It surely makes  a fun birthday celebration.

Claire, you fill our hearts with lots and lots of smiles. We are so thankful to have you in our family.

That is the story of our Happy Halloween Birthday.  It makes me happy to think of it.

I hope that you all are doing well. Pray for our country.  Pray for our President. We need it more than ever.  Have a good week.   Hugs, Lura

Sunday Six smiles in review

A_staffy's_Sunday_Six

O.K….. I know that it is really Saturday night and I’m am a few minutes premature posting my Sunday six….. but it is Sunday in England now…. and if I asked them I am sure that Marie and Sybil would give me permission to go ahead…. so…

Here I go.

I am way behind and I’ve got to get my Utah trip/Halloween smiles posted before Thanksgiving is here. There are a B-zillion pictures in this post…. I had to put them all in to document the fun we had….. but you don’t have to look at them all and get bored….It’s O.K…. just fast forward through them… I won’t get my feelings hurt.

Lynell’s annual family Halloween party brought me lots of smiles.

IMG_3024IMG_3025

From the minute we walked into her house, and were greeted by Lynell and Lonica…..

IMG_3138IMG_3026

…We knew we were in for a super evening.

IMG_3027IMG_3040

IMG_3042

Actually.. it was a Souper evening. We had a delicious soup bar with 5  spooky choices to choose from.

1. Good soup on a cold evening makes me smile. Eating it with family makes my heart smile.

Of course all of our Utah parties always include karaoke time.

IMG_3045IMG_3055

IMG_3058IMG_3057

This year even my quiet, reserved oldest grandson, Jordan joined in the fun.

IMG_3072IMG_3079

Of course my unreserved son, David, had no trouble hamming it up.

IMG_3067IMG_3068

The girls got their turns too.  Everybody sang out with gusto.

IMG_3056IMG_3081

Little Dave is following in his dad Dave’s footsteps and can really belt it out….. 2 year old Evan didn’t sing but he surely did beat out the tempo for us.                 2. My Karaoke Kids make me smile.

IMG_3087IMG_3092

Next was the mommy mummy wrap contest.

IMG_3086IMG_3093

IMG_3095IMG_3096

Can you tell which mummy mommy is which?  I’m not biased but I think the 2nd mummy from the right should have won…. don’t you?????… after all she is the oldest mummy there!!

IMG_3100IMG_3101

IMG_3102

The mummy wrappings turned into a paper snow storm.

  3. Mommy Mummy wrapping makes me smile.

Next the kids bobbed for the apples Grampy brought to them from his orchard.

IMG_3107

Johnny shows us how it is done.

IMG_3113IMG_3115

Way to go Loni!

IMG_3116IMG_3120

That’s the way Emma

IMG_3110

and Davey

IMG_3124IMG_3126

Gracie got her whole head wet but she got her apple.

IMG_3128IMG_3127

Ellie and Calan wondered why the big kids worked so hard to get their apples. They knew a much easier way to do it.

4. Bobbing for apples makes me smile

5. Cute costumes make me smile

Cal and Ellie 2011IMG_3029

I think Cal and Ellie make the cutest Raggedy Ann and Andy ever!

IMG_3046IMG_3036

Emma is a  beautiful bee……. I have no idea who this guy is???

IMG_3033IMG_3034

Is Gracie a little devil or an Angel????

IMG_3032

I guess she is a little of both!

At least my pirate Davey thinks so.

IMG_3020

My little sprout, Evan, made us all smile.

6. Most of all my loving family make me smile.

IMG_3130

Lynell and Dathan

IMG_3063

Marla and David

IMG_3065

Patrick and Erin

IMG_3039

IMG_3104

Grammy and Jordan ………………….Grammy and Grampy

IMG_3149

Ernie, Mindy, Grampy, Grammy, E.J., Austin and Claire.

I feel so blessed to be alive and able to spend this fun holiday with both my Utah kids and my CA kids.
