I thought I would post some smiles I’ve had recently.
Twenty six years ago today ,Jordan, made me a grandmother. I thought being a mother was great but being a grandmother is even better. Happy Birthday dear Jordan. We love you lots. Thank you for being such a hard worker and so loving and sweet to me. That makes me smile.
Our 12 year old Claire attended opera camp and got to be in another LA Opera production.
I was not allowed to take any pictures of Claire on stage but you will just have to take this proud Grammy’s word for it that Claire was radiant.
Claire not only sings like an angel…… she glows when she is on stage and stands out in the group even when she is not in the spot light. This is not just my imagination…. she really does.
She recently sang at the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Children’s choir and the camera man kept focusing on Claire. Her beautiful face filled the big screens around the bowl. One of the other girl’s mom made a comment to Mindy about how much “screen time” Claire got. She said “the camera sure seemed to love Claire”….. of course we agreed. Hearing Claire sing makes my heart smile.
Claire’s 14 year old brother, EJ, brings us musical smiles too. He is officially a member of his dad’s high school band now. He has been playing with the band unofficially off and on for years but now he is a legitimate member and he is an outstanding trumpet player. He got to play the Star Spangled Banner solo at the first football game. He also just auditioned and made it into the top orchestra of the Claremont Young Musicians. EJ brings us smiles.
Flood update: (This does not make me smile!) Our house and patios are still a total disaster after our flood. The drywall has been cut out and a big dehumidifier continues to run in the room to dry it out. I still do not have any hot water in the kitchen. The hot water heater broke and flooded the room on Sept. 1st. I think it is high time something gets done to fix the room and clean up this mess. I guess one good thing is it is forcing us to sort through our emergency food supply and get rid of the out dated cans…. but what a mess.
Health update: I’m not feeling too good but I saw a vascular surgeon Friday who told me that it is most likely the blood thinner I am taking that is making me feel so tired and worn out. My blood clots have gotten a little smaller and are only blocking 2 veins now instead of 3. He wants me to stay on the Warfarin until December when I will have another ultrasound. At that time he will take another look at the clots and determine if I can stop taking the stuff that is making me feel so exhausted. Maybe there is a light at the end of this year long tunnel. I hope so.
I had skin testing done on Friday too. I am allergic to some trees, grasses and weeds. As you can see from this picture, our home is surrounded by these things… so… I guess I’m out of luck….. unless we move to the desert…. but I hate the desert….. however it would be one way to get away from our flood mess…. hummmm…… maybe I will have to give that some thought.
Meanwhile I am sending you all hugs and hoping that you have lots to smile about.
Have a great week. Hugs, Grammy Lura

I would love to hear your granddaughter sing again. She has a true and rare gift. Congrats to your grandson! You have a great musical family. My mom in law was allergic to trees ans she lived in a forest! Blood thinners can make a person feel weak and icky. my dad in law was on this and the dosage always had to be "tampered" with. It finally settled so I hope you will find it less icky for you and i am very happy it is working regarding your blood
Happy Birthday to your lovely grandson. I think all of your grandkids are so special. Of course I only got to meet Lynell's, but I am sure that all of your grandchildren are the same. How could they not be special. Just look at how special their grandparents are! I hope one day I will be able to hear Claire sing! I am sure it is just beautiful. It is still my dream to visit you in California. Dreams can come true. I Hope you start to feel a lot better soon. I have a blood clot in my right arm, but they haven't given me anything to get rid of it. I am glad that you have a better health care system in America and that your Doctor are more on the ball than ours seem to be! Love you very much! xxoo
Lura I must have missed your post about the flood....I'm so sorry you're having to deal with that. Before we lived in the house we're in now it was flooded....the whole house had 52" of water, up to the top of the doors. Of course, they had to gut it and completely redo it. That was about 1991. Beautiful grandchildren! blessings, marlene
Such great achievements of your grandchildren! Loved to read about what they are doing and performing in, etc. So sorry relief is not in sight yet with getting your house restored after the water heater disaster. You are a trooper to put up with it as long as you are doing! I hope you'll be able to come off the warfarin in a few months. I'm sure you are tired of it all, not feeling well, having to have blood tests, etc.
betty
Your grandchildren are beautiful. You are proud of them as you should be. Very talented children. I hope that you get to feeling better soon. That is awful when you have no energy. Mine is coming from the grief...I hope I will work through it and soon have more energy. Keeping you and yours in my prayers...
Oh you very dear one; I am happy to see this update. I have been praying for you. You have some very accomplished grandchildren and I know what a thrill it is to see them preform. You should be smiling and very proud.
I do hope things speed up on your flood mess. Not having hot water in the kitchen wouldn't be a struggle.
I am glad the blood clots are improving and at least you know what is causing your exhaustion. I do hope your health will improve dramatically and soon.
I find it amazing that you have gone through so much but are still being positive. You are such an wonderful example of faith and enduring.
Blessings, love and hugs for you!
I had to stop by and check things out. I agree with you there is nothing better than being a grandmother.
I did not know about your blood clots - where - when - how. I am sure glad they caught them.
Are you trying to do it yourself? Why not make an insurance claim - you really want to get out all those mold!
